2018 Stanley Cup Championship

Central Task

To prepare a wide variety of production ready graphics in time for the Stanley Cup Championship Parade.

Target Audience: Capitals fans celebrating the Stanley Cup victory watching the parade in person or on television.

Strategic Alignment: Began work immediately after the end of the winning game on June 7, 2018 with the parade beginning the morning of June 12, 2018.

Design Solutions

Create a simple design solution that allows for high visibility, quick production, and compatibility with event sponsor logos and requirements.

World Champions: Develop a simple wordmark that would remain highly visible while eliminating any possible conflict between the NHL and corporate sponsors.

ALL OURS: Rebrand the Capitals regular season slogan to commemorate the Stanley Cup victory. This allowed the use of the Capitals and NHL brands.

Outcome & Results

Fans: More than 500,000 fans attended the parade in person and was broadcast live on Monumental Sports Network and across local television networks such as NBC4 and WUSA9.

Brand Recognition: Wall to wall media coverage on a national level for several days following the Stanley Cup victory allowed for these graphics to remain highly visible and become engrained in the memories of the Championship.

Stanley Cup Champions Banner

The project I was most proud of was creating the championship banner that hangs permanently in the rafters of Capital One Arena. This banner will forever celebrate the incredible playoff run and the franchise’s first ever Stanley Cup.
